Self Help Tip: Clear Your Mind ? Dating & Relationships Articles

I?ve just received an email from one of my personal development ezine readers. Each Monday and Wednesday I email a couple of thousand people around the world with a free personal development video and a free personal development article, respectively. And, from time to time, a quick tip or two is thrown in for good measure. Last Monday I included a guided meditation and it was in response to that that the email arrived. My reader said that she had suddenly discovered clarity of mind ? in just five minutes ? and knew how she was going to start her day from now on.

There?s any number of things that can mess up our day ? like arriving at work and finding that we?ve to do something that we hadn?t planned on doing, like people interrupting us so that they can lay their problems on us, like an argument over something stupid as you were rushing out to work, or even something as stupid as someone getting under your skin as you left your children off to school or got to the gym. In ordinary everyday life, all these things are sent to try us ? and, as normal people, we are found wanting. But we allow our attention to be dragged all over the place ? anywhere other than where it should be. Consequently, we?re almost never doing the best that we could at anything that we do during the course of a normal day.

All this stuff comes from other people, outside events, the stuff that ordinary everyday life is made of ? the little things that come and go. But we?re our own worst enemy too ? how often are you distracted by your own random thoughts? Have you ever noticed how the stupidest thoughts cross your mind at the most inappropriate moment. Did you realize that thinking that you?d like to be at the beach instead of stuck in this boring meeting will not teleport you to the beach?! In fact, that kind of thought will just make the meeting more boring! Or do you understand that wishing it was the weekend because you hate your job is going to make your job more difficult and you?ll end up proving to yourself that you were right to hate it in the first place! It?s a vicious circle that, if we stick with that example, will mean that you wake up feeling down five days a week! How?s that for living?

You?ve got to realize that life?s difficult enough without us making it even more difficult. Psychology tells us that we have 50,000 random thoughts every day, none of which have anything to do with what we?re supposed to be doing while we?re thinking them! So you?ve external noise and internal noise ? with all the distraction in our own head it?s almost impossible to focus. Obviously, if you just start the day normally, without making any effort to get your head focused, what do you honestly think that chances are of you suddenly becoming miraculously focused during the day. Would you even think about leaving the home nude? (If you would, what we?re talking about in this article is the least of your worries!) So why would you even consider leaving your home mentally unprepared for the day ahead? Maybe it?s never occurred to you that you can be in charge of your own head.

Well, you can! But, if you don?t take control, your mind will stay mundane, distracted, not-too-bad. It begins by taking the necessary steps to clear your mind ? turning off the noise in your head. If you don?t do this first thing in the morning, you?ve simply given up on the day ahead before it?s got going. If you do, you start your day focused. A clear mind is a focused mind. Focus simply means that you?re paying attention to what is happening. When you?re focused, you better able to handle all the nonsense that other people will dump on you throughout the day. When you?re focused you will automatically be more productive, more effective ? you?ll be far more productive and that will make you feel better about life in general and yourself in particular. Most importantly, focus means that you?ll be alert to the opportunities that are all around you every day ? you were just too hassled by all the noise ? so you never noticed.

Focus is the only key you need to success ? and happiness. Neuro-psychology proves that a focused mind is in a completely different zone to the normal mind ? the peak performance zone. When we?re focused, our brain?s electrical activity is on a completely different level than when we?re in our normal, all-over-the-place, state of mind. In fact, your ability to be happy and successful is correlated to your ability to focus. In other words, if you don?t know how to focus, you?ll never achieve happiness and success. But, if you do know how you focus, the world is your oyster.

Focus starts with clarity. You clear your mind by focusing on what you are experiencing in the moment. And that?s how meditation did it for my ?eziner? ? meditation is training for the mind ? it enables you develop your skill at focusing your attention of everything that your senses are telling you ? not what all the noise in your head is trying to push on you. If you start your day by paying attention to the reality of the moment, you will be equipped, as the day progresses, to spot the difference between reality and the unreal world that our internal noise and other people?s dramas create. As a result, you?ll be able to maintain your focus.

So, what are you going to do tomorrow morning?
