My journey of motherhood is quite challenging as it needs more patience and understanding, and yet fun. I love my children very much that I am willing to do whatever it takes to have more patience and determination of how to raise them to be a better person. In my entire life, I have never thought that I would be raising children until I get old, and not to mention with the four kids. Having that many kids quite a handful but also fulfilling.
It is indeed a full time job as you have to watch them 24/7 and make sure that they are okay, get everything they need and well fed. There are times that I get so mad at them especially when they do something bad, but I told myself that they are just kids who make mistakes just like adults. So I?ve tried really hard not to yell at them and talk to them calmly the best I could. I tried so hard to minimize our household schedule so we all could spend time together as a family and let the kids play during weekends. They deserve to enjoy themselves for they are still kids. And also I am taking the opportunity to enjoy with the children while they are still little. They are the reason why I become a SHAM and who always keep me so busy. A full time job that is.
Anyway, before when it was just the two of us, I used to think about work all the time as I was working full time-a real job. But now that we have the four kids, getting a job it never cross my mind just yet as I couldn?t afford to leave them behind. I just couldn?t simply get a job and worries about my children being left at home while the husband is at work. For sure I will be going back to work when the time is right and the children would be old enough that they would be able to take care of themselves. Right now I only think of how we would be able to raise them and give them a good life they deserve. I so love our wonderful children dearly. My family is my world. The love of my life!!!

Livestock virus prompts UK fears

A disease which has caused birth defects and miscarriages in livestock has been found on 74 farms in England.
The Schmallenberg infection has been diagnosed five times in cattle and 69 times in sheep, Defra officials said.
But the National Farmers' Union warned cases of the virus, which first emerged in the Netherlands and Germany last year, were being "under-reported".
Humans are thought to be unaffected by the virus, which is thought to be spread by midges, mosquitoes and ticks.
In England, the disease has now been identified on the Isle of Wight and in Wiltshire, West Berkshire and Gloucestershire.
This is in addition to farms in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Kent, East and West Sussex, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Hampshire and Cornwall, which have previously identified cases.
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said it suspected livestock may have got the virus from infected midges blown across the Channel from affected areas in Europe.
'An unknown'None of the affected farms have imported animals during 2011 from the affected areas in mainland Europe.
The impact of the disease on the UK sheep flock should become clear over the next two weeks as the lambing season reaches its peak.
The UK's chief veterinary officer, Nigel Gibbens, said farmers and vets had been "very good about reporting the disease".
Defra had received 150 reports of the virus but only 74 of those had proven positive, he said.
"Farmers are rightly concerned but no there is no panic at all," he told the BBC News Channel.

Peter Kendall, president the NFU, told the BBC News Channel that some farms had reported losses of up to a quarter of their lambs.
East Sussex farmer Frank Langrish, an NFU spokesman, warned there was "huge under-reporting" of cases of the virus.
"We had a meeting last week about the virus and all the farmers there had seen cases but only about one in five had actually bothered to report it," he said.
"The number of cases the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (is reporting) are way under what is happening on the ground."
Ian Johnson, spokesman for the south-west England branch of the National Farmers' Union, said farmers were worried about the disease.
"Nobody knows much about the virus and nobody knows the extent to which it may have spread," he said.
"That will manifest at peak lambing time in March and April."
He said the risk should be kept in context - last year in south-west England 25,000 cattle had to be slaughtered because of Bovine TB, he said, while so far less than 100 cases of Schmallenberg have been reported.
'Slowly creeping'But he added "the problem is, it's an unknown", and went on: "Potentially, it could be extremely serious depending on how widespread it is."
Mr Johnson urged farmers who suspect their livestock might be affected to report it despite the virus not being classified as a "notifiable disease".
"We need to keep farmers aware and keep them reporting it so that we can see the extent of it," he said.
David Willison, who keeps sheep and Jersey cattle at Cinderbarrow Farm in Cumbria, told BBC Radio 4's Farming Today programme he was concerned about the virus and was waiting to see what would happen, despite his farm being in north-west England, far from the farms where the virus has been reported.
He said the fact that the disease was new made it difficult to predict its spread, adding that the latest information suggested the virus was "slowly creeping" further north in the country.
Phil Stocker, chief executive of the National Sheep Association, said there was currently no compensation for farmers whose animals suffer from the disease.
Since it was a relatively new affliction, they would not be insured against it, making it a "direct hit" on the farmer's pocket, he said.
Price riseHe told the programme: "The costs of keeping a ewe right the way through the year to produce one lamb have been undertaken by the farmer, and if the lamb is born dead through Schmallenberg really the loss is the value of the lamb that would be sold.
"At the moment, that would be anywhere between ?80 and ?95 a head."

"The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control says it is unlikely Schmallenberg virus would cause disease in humans."
Professor Peter Mertens, of the Institute for Animal Health, said the production of a vaccine to combat the disease was "a couple of years away" if normal rules were followed.
"But there are shortcuts which wouldn't reduce the safety of a vaccine but would allow a vaccine to come to the market in perhaps six months, without rigorously checking that it achieved all of the efficacy milestones that perhaps would be normally needed," he told the BBC News Channel.

Meds for Autism Not Well Understood: Study - Health News - Health ...
THURSDAY, Feb. 23 (HealthDay News) ? Children with autism may benefit from medications to treat children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and other related disorders, but clearer guidelines are needed, a new study shows.
Researchers analyzed data from more than 1,000 U.S. teens enrolled in special education programs, to assess the use of psychiatric medications in those with autism, ADHD and both conditions.
Patients with both autism and ADHD had the highest rates of medicine use (about 58 percent), followed by those with ADHD only (around 49 percent) and those with autism only (about 34 percent), according to study author Paul Shattuck, an assistant professor at Washington University in St. Louis, and colleagues.
Black teenagers with autism only or with autism and ADHD were less likely to receive medications than whites.
?Observations from the present study reinforce the complexity of pharmacologic treatment of challenging behavior in kids with [autism spectrum disorders] and ADHD,? Shattuck said in a university news release. ?There needs to be a clearer guide for treating kids with both an [autism spectrum disorder] and ADHD.?
He noted that drug treatment for autism reflects a trial-and-error approach based on associated symptoms, and there is a poor understanding of overall medication use for children with autism.
?Also striking are the high rates of antipsychotic, antidepressant/anti-anxiety and stimulant medication use in these youths,? Shattuck said. ?Additional studies examining the treatment of core and associated [autism spectrum disorder] symptoms are needed to guide the treatment of these kids.?
It is estimated that one in 110 people have autism, with the majority being boys. Signs of autism include problems with communication and social interactions.
The study appears in the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychopharmacology.

Malmgren and a team of researchers reviewed breast cancer patient data from a dedicated registry at the community cancer center of the Swedish Cancer Institute in Seattle. The researchers analyzed data on 1,977 breast cancer patients ages 40 to 49 who were treated between 1990 and 2008. The researchers looked at method of diagnosis (detected by mammography, patient or physician), stage at diagnosis (0-IV, confirmed by biopsy), treatment and annual follow-up information, including recurrence of disease.
?Our goal was to assess the differences between mammography and non-mammography detected breast cancer to determine whether earlier detection confers a treatment and morbidity advantage because the disease is found at an earlier stage,? Malmgren said.
The data analysis revealed a significant increase in the percentage of mammography-detected breast cancer over the 18-year period, from 28% in 1990 to 58% in 2008. Over the same period, patient- and physician-detected breast cancer declined from 73% of all cases in 1990 to 42% in 2008.
?The shift toward more mammography-detected breast cancer cases was accompanied by a shift toward diagnosis at an earlier stage of disease that required less treatment,? Malmgren said.
Over the 18-year period, the number of breast cancers diagnosed at Stage 0 increased by 66%, while the number of Stage III breast cancers decreased by 66%. The majority of Stage 0 cancer cases were ductal carcinoma in situ, a non-invasive cancer that is confined to a milk duct. The treatment of DCIS remains controversial, the researchers noted, because not all experts agree that it is potentially life threatening.
Malmgren said another key finding of the study was the extent of treatment patients received. Compared with women whose cancer was self-detected or discovered by a physician, patients whose cancer was detected using mammography were more likely to have breast-conserving treatment and less likely to have chemotherapy. Specifically, they were more likely to undergo lumpectomy (67% vs. 48%), less likely to undergo modified radical mastectomy (25% vs. 47%) and less likely to die of breast cancer (4% vs. 11%).
The American Cancer Society and other medical organizations say women should begin receiving annual mammograms to screen for breast cancer at age 40. In 2009, the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force issued guidelines that eliminated the longstanding recommendation for routine mammography screening for women ages 40 to 49, stating that the benefits of screening were potentially outweighed by the harms of screening, such as false-positive results.

Former slave worker Nivaldo Inacio da Silva had another easy decision to make: pick cotton for about $2 a day or make eight times as much as a bricklayer at another World Cup venue.

Chiquinho has been in prison since the 1980s after being convicted of bank robbery in the state of Minas Gerais. He will be eligible for parole later this year, in part because his sentence has been gradually reduced thanks to his work helping renovate the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte.
Chiquinho works as a cleaning supervisor at the Mineirao, where two dozen other prisoners are getting the same opportunity to get out of prison and work. In addition to placing them into the work force, the program by Brazil's National Council of Justice also offers training courses to further facilitate their access to the job market after they leave prison.
It has already helped more than 2,200 prisoners across the country, and currently 59 are working in some of the 12 World Cup stadiums.
Chiquinho and the other prisoners wake up at 4 a.m. every weekday to make a two-hour trip from their penitentiary to Mineirao, working until late in the day before returning. But there is no complaining.
"Our life is getting better because of this chance," said Chiquinho, who also used to work inside his prison and currently is even allowed to go to college. "I'll be able to say that I was part of this World Cup, I'll be proud to say that I was part of it. This will be part of history."
About 1,000 miles away in the western city of Cuiaba, former slave worker Silva is also appreciating the chance he's gotten largely thanks to the World Cup.

"We talked to the consortium of companies building the stadium and convinced them that they could be using these workers after they were properly trained," said Valdiney Arruda, who is in charge of the labor ministry program. "They knew it was a good opportunity and opened up spots for them. These workers studied and now they have good housing and eat properly thanks to this."
Silva is one of 25 former labor slaves now working at the Arena Pantanal. He started as an assistant bricklayer, making more money than he had ever made in life, and is already getting trained to find a better-paying position in the near future.
"My life is completely different now," the 44-year-old Silva told the AP. "A lot has changed. Now I'm making some good money, I'm really happy. I'm helping build one of these stadiums and hopefully one day I'll be able to show it to my children."
The companies using the former slaves said it was an easy decision to accept these workers, because the civil construction sector is struggling to attract labor.
"Because of this program, they will be able to continue working in civil construction in the future," said Simone Ponce, a spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara and Mendes Junior consortium. "The social legacy will be tremendous."
