Job Description:

TYPICAL TASKS:
*Depending upon assignment in building, an aide can perform all or part of tasks listed. The level of involvement is dependent on classroom teacher.

1. Monitor student activities such as test taking, research projects or recreation.

2. Assist in the instruction of students working individually or in small groups.

3. Coordinate individualized programs for students, including lifting students on and off of prone and supine positioning equipment; use of switches for basic communication.

4. Prepare teaching aids and reproduce classroom materials.

5. Implement the specialized care and/or treatment developed for the individual needs of handicapped students.

6. Assess students? progress and consult with teacher on revisions to lesson plans and/or methods of teaching.

7. May take over instruction of students in absence of teacher.

8. Assist in food preparation and feeding of students.

9. Monitor students to be aware for choking and/or seizures.

10. Assist with toileting, grooming, hygiene, medication and behavior plans.

11. Monitor students on field trips into community.

12. Perform other duties as assigned.

Skill/Education Needed:
QUALIFICATIONS Specific training or job experience required before appointment Experience working with disabled/handicapped children. Ability to lift in excess of 70 lbs. High school diploma or equivalent certification. First Aid/CPR Training required (Student Support Services will provide training if not attained) and three letters of recommendation required (family members not included). Other specialized trainings may also be required and provided by Student Support Services. Candidate must meet NCLB qualifications. NCLB = 60 post-secondary hours of college coursework OR Minimum of an AA degree (or higher) OR Meet the minimum score required on an Arizona Department of Education approved test. (FUSD administers the ParaPro Test. Call 928.774.1103 for more information and to schedule a testing time. SALARY INFORMATION Starting Hourly rate is based on specific job assignment.
