AG Biden warns about crooked contractors
In the wake of the severe storms this past weekend, Attorney General Biden is warning you to be on the lookout for home improvement scammers.
Biden says you should be suspicious of anyone who solicits home improvement work door-to-door, and you should also make sure any contractor you're thinking of hiring is licensed and bonded.
Get references and follow up on them, and check the contractor out with the Better Business Bureau.
Never pay for work up front, and always get several written work proposals and cost estimates.
If you suspect wrongdoing by a contractor, call the AG's Office's Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-800-220-5424.
