DPS: Driver in chase reached 117 mph, suspected of DWI
Texas Department of Public Safety officials say the driver involved in a high speed chase through Medina, Bexar and Atascosa counties reached speeds over 100 miles per hour and is suspected of driving while intoxicated.
Authorities say the chase started in Medina County when the driver was clocked going 72 mph in a 40 mph zone.
The driver sped all the way from Castroville through Bexar County then to Atascosa County on Interstate 37 South.
He was clocked on I-37 at 117 mph and drove long stretches of the highway with his headlights off.
DPS officials laid down spikes near Pleasanton and the suspects were finally caught about a mile south of 97.
The driver and a passenger attempted to flee on foot but were taken into custody and officials were forced to subdue the passenger with a taser.
A total of six agencies were involved in the chase including the U.S. Border Patrol.
Both of the people in the car were taken to the Atascosa County Jail.
Authorities said the driver is facing charges for DWI and evading arrest. The passenger also faces evading arrest charges.
