A PJD member of parliament said that it is high time for Morocco to cancel the allegiance ceremony and its humiliating rituals that no longer respond to the aspirations of the new generation; a generation that longs for a new Moroccan state based on dignity, pride, democracy, work and production.

Amina Maelainine wonders on her social networking page of facebook about the usefulness of such a tradition. She said there is no need for cramming officials and elected citizens under the scorching sun to stand for more than one hour, only to kneel before the king in the 21st century and in light of the new constitution.

She went on to say that nowadays there is an advanced constitutional document which builds upon the idea of mutual respect between the ruler and citizens, implying that it is a substitute for the controversial allegiance ceremony. She stressed that during the ceremony she stood upright and no one forced here to kneel.

Amina Maelainine?s stance highlights that there is no agreement among the leading Islamist party over such rituals. It is worth mentioning that four ministers of the PJD signed last year a document demanding the abolition of the Bayaa or the allegiance ceremony
