Terakawa Ramen: Totally Legit at Phoodie.info: The New Food And ...

We never did get around to telling you what a grotesque disappointment Ramen Boy was. In a city increasingly so desperate for good ramen that even the promise of a new decent spot lands us straight into all kinds of can?t-handle-it awkwardsauce, Ramen Boy, headed up by the folks who brought you Yakitori Boy ? or, as we like to call it, Where Women Go To Scream ? was poised for greatness. But instead, the joint snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and gave us ramen that was bland, milky, and kind of gross. Ramen Boy mercifully closed after less than six months.

Quietly, the same location has re-opened as Terakawa Ramen, an offshoot of the increasingly popular series of NYC ramen spots that, interestingly, replaced a Teriyaki Boy up there. Whatever palace coup had to happen, it was worth it. We checked out Terakawa Ramen over the weekend and found it to be both the genuine article and pretty damned cheap. There?s gyoza, there?s pork belly buns, and most importantly, several stripes of ramen noodle soup, with both miso and pork-based broths. The noodles are fresh and cooked to your liking, the chicken and pork are simple and delicious, and perhaps most impressively, you can trick your bowl out with your choice of extras and fixin?s:

That?s right, you read that right: EXTRA NOODLES for a buck-fifty. (Handy tip: Drop them in immediately into the broth or they?ll get weird.) Service was good, and Terakawa Ramen remains a BYOB. And most importantly, it does not suck.
