CID/FF Best Practices Workshop Announced - UPDATE

You?ve created the course, submitted the paperwork, received approval and proofread the catalog course description.?Now it?s time to think about teaching it.

Share ideas for teaching and discuss ?best practices? in the use of writing and speaking assignments in major courses such as Communication in the Discipline?(CID) and?Finishing Foundation?(FF).

Spotlight on specific best practices:? Andy Hyer (Health Sciences) on using undergraduate peer mentors to help respond to student writing; Laurel Traynowicz (Communication) on poster sessions as an oral presentation assignments

This workshop will focus on how to?prepare?students to complete your assignments (both written and spoken), including:

  • How to divide writing and speaking assignments into doable steps across a semester
  • How to respond?effectively?but also?efficiently?at various stages of the composing process
  • How to guide student research
  • How to grade?both?written and oral projects

Handouts will include both general principles and specific course materials (assignments, research guides and grading rubrics keyed to speaking and writing assignments).
