Six hurt in California crash of Marine helicopter (Reuters)

SAN DIEGO (Reuters) ? Six people aboard a U.S. Marine Corps helicopter were injured when it crashed at Camp Pendleton in southern California on Wednesday, and they have been taken to local hospitals, the military said.

Military officials declined to immediately disclose the extent of the victims' injuries or whether they are military personnel.

The helicopter crashed in the north end of the 125,000-acre base, which is about 50 miles north of San Diego, said 1st Lt. Maureen Dooley, a Marine spokeswoman at Camp Pendleton.

Three of the six people injured in the crash were taken by Camp Pendleton ambulance to Scripps La Jolla Medical Center, one of the leading trauma centers in the region, said Scripps spokeswoman Lisa Ohmstede.

It was not immediately clear what local hospital received the other victims.

The helicopter was a UH-1Y and it was part of the Third Marine Air Wing, Dooley said. Marines with that attack squadron are stationed at Camp Pendleton.
