SIAM to request roll-back on SUV excise hike: Budget 2013 | Rush ...

SIAM- the central body of Indian automobile manufacturers have decided to ask India?s fianance minister, Mr P Chidambaram for a roll-back on excise duty hike levied on SUVs under Budget 2013.

SIAM to request roll-back on SUV excise hike Budget 2013The proposed hike in excise duty of SUVs, has resulted in?Indian auto industry unanimously voicing their displeasure over Budget 2013. Though SIAM had welcomed the Budget 2013, they are not happy with the hike in excise of SUVs. Its not only SUVs that will be affected, as Budget 2013 says, all vehicles with an engine larger than 1500 cc, ground clearance of more than 170mm and length over 4m, are SUVs.

This means, that Maruti Suzuki SX4, Toyota Corolla Altis, Honda Civic also fall in the SUV category, and could see increase in prices by upto INR 40,000. Other than this, the favorite SUVs of India, like the Mahindra Scorpio, XUV500, Renault Duster petrol, Toyota Innova, can see an increase in prices by upto INR 60,000.

In an?interview?with PTI, Dr Pawan Goenka, President, M&M (Automotive and Farm Equipment Sectors), said,??The higher excise duty on SUVs was totally uncalled for. This was the only segment which was showing some growth. We had a post Budget meeting of SIAM members and it was unanimously decided to ask the FM to reconsider the decision. Our concern is that among vehicles in the same price category, one may have to pay the higher excise duty and other may not.?

Apart from this, the Budget 2013 also states that import duty on completely built cars which cost over $40,000, have engine larger than 3000cc for petrol and 2500cc for diesel, will now attract 100% import duty, compared to the previous 75%. This will see the base models of applicable variants of Land Rover to be dearer by INR 15 lakhs, while that of Lamborhgini by INR 60 lakhs. SIAM will not be asking for a roll back on this, so the rich are once again punished to earn more.

Diet Plans and Useful Guidelines To Enable You to Be Successful

To productively slim down through going on a diet, you can find a few important recommendations that an individual can follow. By doing some minor changes to your way of living and diet plan, it will be possible to lose weight. One way that you could achieve this is by receiving a treat from home. You can take a stroll to the local fast food restaurant or perhaps prepare a family outing. The aim here is to keep you far from food item which is conveniently within your reach in your own home. Yet another change which you can make is to store fresh fruits in your kitchen, which may meet you sweet urges just including desserts.

Whenever you take fewer calories than what you burn off, it is possible to shed weight. Nevertheless, it could be tough to realize this especially when you are starving. As per a variety of studies, individuals who get approximately 4 - 5 meals or snacks can handle their cravings and body weight much better. The key point, for that reason, is not to hold back on food consumption, but having small recurrent meals or snacks. Have the evening meal as the final meal. In your diet, protein may be your best ally because it could satisfy your food cravings much more than carbohydrates and fats. Going with diet programs that are higher in proteins and lesser in carbs alongside routine physical exercise can aid in slimming. If you consume plenty of proteins, it is possible to preserve the muscles and help burn off the excess fat while aiding you to feel full. Yogurt, Cheese, beans, and nuts, are good sources of protein that you can easily include in your meals or snacks. Bear in mind to never let yourself to be hungry. A few of the proposed staples which you can store your pantry with include things like frozen veggies, processed beans, whole-grain wraps or pitas and pre-cooked brown rice. Prepare not only a healthy and balanced dish but a good one which is now prepared in a snap.

If you go eating at restaurants, you need to order a sandwich that is not so big or a child's pizza pie as one of your strategy for lessening your calorie consumption and getting your portions controlled. For some other types of foodstuff, you can use a smaller sized plate. The perception of a filled plate, even though small, enables the mind to believe that your physical body is by now satisfied. Integrate in your dishes fruits and vegetables that are in season. This assures you of much better taste and flavor as those out of season are commonly poor on these. You could try substituting pasta with greens. Where you have a lesser amount of bread or pasta and increase your fresh vegetables consumption, it is possible to shed a dress or pant size in one year. Holding back the intake of starch and increasing vegetable intake spells a big difference of 100-200 calories.

Nerve-racking circumstances can at times result in emotional or binge eating. To combat this, seek out other methods to minimize tension which has nothing to do with food items. There are a lot of choices- reading, writing on a journal, meditating, tuning in to audio - all of these can effectively decrease tension. The key element to effective fat loss is a marriage of suitable diet and physical exercise. Whenever performing exercises, do it for the appropriate reasons. Do not look at it as penalty or as a pass to indulge in unsafe food. Incorrect inspirations produce a negative attitude towards exercise. As a substitute, you should put emphasis on the great feeling you achieve, how much better you sleep at night and the power you obtain because of working out. Physical exercise and other activities are useful to everyone - both to individuals who are seeking to drop and those who are maintaining their body weight. In the interest of a healthier and stronger body, keep an optimistic perspective, make good adjustments, and develop long lasting practices that will be useful for a long time.

Sinkhole swallows Fla. man ? and it's still growing

Sinkholes are most often found in seven states, including Florida, where the ground recently collapsed Thursday in Seffner. NBC's Gabe Gutierrez reports.

By Gabe Gutierrez and M. Alex Johnson, NBC News

Authorities evacuated neighbors Friday around a sinkhole that swallowed the interior of a Florida house ? apparently taking a man to his death ? describing the sinkhole as "seriously unstable" and likely to keep growing.

Jeffrey Bush, 36, hasn't been heard from since he screamed as a 20-foot-deep by 20-foot-wide hole opened underneath his family's home near Tampa late Thursday. Officials and engineers were continuing their search for him Friday.

"I couldn't get him out," said Bush's brother, Jeremy, who tried to rescue him. "All I thought I could hear was him screaming for me and hollering for me, but I couldn't do nothing."

The sinkhole was still growing Friday evening, officials said, and residents of homes on both sides were evacuated.

Engineers were using three-dimensional photos of the soil and other data to figure out the best way to stop its spread, said Bill Bracken, president of an engineering firm that was called in to assist. By Friday, the hole's "safety zone" ? the land around it that was considered unstable ? extended 100 feet, he said at a news conference. Meanwhile, it continued to deepen and presented a significant potential for what authorities called a "sudden collapse." ?

The sinkhole swallowed part of the interior of the house but left the exterior remarkably intact. The only thing sticking out of the hole was a small corner of a bed's box spring. Cables from a television led down into the hole, but the TV set, along with a dresser, was nowhere to be seen.

Jeremy Bush, brother of Jeffrey Bush, breaks down Friday, March 1, while speaking about trying to rescue his brother.

Officials lowered equipment into the sinkhole but didn't see any sign of life.

NBC station WFLA of Tampa reported that six people were in the house when the sinkhole tore through it about 11 p.m. ET. All but Jeffrey Bush escaped.

"They heard a sound they described as a car crash emanating from the bedroom," Hillsborough County Fire Chief Ron Rogers said outside the house in Seffner. "They rushed in. All they could see was part of a mattress sticking out of the hole. Essentially, the floor of the room had opened."

The hole almost got Jeremy Bush, too. But Hillsborough County sheriff's Deputy Douglas Duvall arrived to save him, WFLA reported.

Engineers work Friday, March 1, in front of a home where sinkhole opened up underneath a bedroom and swallowed a man in Seffner, Fla.

Sinkholes are relatively common in Florida, but they don't always cause injury or major disruption.

Officials said they didn't immediately know whether the neighborhood near Tampa has had problems in the past, but the threat is apparently evident enough that at least two companies in Seffner advertise their expertise in "sinkhole repair."

"Florida sits on a system of caverns filled with water," Rogers said. "As that water moves up and down, it erodes those caverns, and from time to time they collapse."

US economy expanded, barely, at end of 2012

The U.S. economy barely grew in the fourth quarter although a slightly better performance in exports and fewer imports led the government to scratch an earlier estimate that showed an economic contraction.

Gross domestic product expanded at a 0.1 percent annual rate, the Commerce Department said on Thursday, missing the 0.5 percent gain forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll.

The growth rate was the slowest since the first quarter of 2011 and far from what is needed to fuel a faster drop in the unemployment rate.

However, much of the weakness came from a slowdown in inventory accumulation and a sharp drop in military spending. These factors are expected to reverse in the first quarter.

Consumer spending was more robust by comparison, although it only expanded at a 2.1 percent annual rate.

Because household spending powers about 70 percent of national output, this still-lackluster pace of growth suggests underlying momentum in the economy was quite modest as it entered the first quarter, when significant fiscal tightening began.

Initially, the government had estimated the economy shrank at a 0.1 percent annual rate in the last three months of 2012. That had shocked economists.

Thursday's report showed the reasons for the decline were mostly as initially estimated. Inventories subtracted 1.55 percentage points from the GDP growth rate during the period, a little more of a drag than initially estimated. Defense spending plunged 22 percent, shaving 1.28 points off growth as in the previous estimate.

There were some relatively bright spots, however. Imports fell 4.5 percent during the period, which added to the overall growth rate because it was a larger drop than in the third quarter. Buying goods from foreigners bleeds money from the economy, subtracting from economic growth.

Also helping reverse the initial view of an economic contraction, exports did not fall as much during the period as the government had thought when it released its advance GDP estimate in January. Exports have been hampered by a recession in Europe, a cooling Chinese economy and storm-related port disruptions.

Excluding the volatile inventories component, GDP rose at a revised 1.7 percent rate, in line with expectations. These final sales of goods and services had been previously estimated to have increased at a 1.1 percent pace.

Business spending was revised to show more growth during the period than initially thought, adding about a percentage point to the growth rate.

Growth in home building was revised slightly higher to show a 17.5 percent annual rate. Residential construction is one of the brighter spots in the economy and is benefiting from the Federal Reserve's ultra easy monetary policy stance, which has driven mortgage rates to record lows. Canadian exports help trim large current account gap

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada's current account deficit narrowed in the fourth quarter of 2012 as the country exported more goods to the United States, but the gap remained near record levels and analysts maintained their glum outlook for Canadian economic growth and trade.

The current account deficit for the quarter totaled C$17.3 billion ($16.9 billion), Statistics Canada said on Thursday. That was slightly bigger than the C$17 billion forecast by analysts in a Reuters poll, and smaller than the revised C$18.04 billion gap in the third quarter.

But the shortfall remained well above year-earlier levels and uncomfortably close to the record current account deficit of C$19.4 billion posted in the third quarter of 2010.

"Today's report reaffirms our expectation that net exports will provide a modest positive contribution to what is expected to be a mediocre GDP (gross domestic product for the fourth quarter)," Mazen Issa, economist at TD Securities, wrote in a note to clients.

"This does not reflect an improving external sector however, as the slight boost from net exports is expected to stem from a greater decline in real imports compared to the decline in real exports."

Statscan will report fourth-quarter GDP on Friday, and the consensus forecast is for 0.6 percent annualized growth.

Canada's GDP and employment have long recovered the losses of the 2008-09 recession but exports have yet to return to pre-crisis levels, battered by weak U.S. demand and the strong Canadian dollar.

Uncertainty in Canada's top trade partner and a currency seen by many as overvalued suggest the current account deficit, which now stands at nearly 4 percent of GDP, is unlikely to shrink dramatically any time soon, economists argue.

"With the U.S. economy only slowly picking up steam, as fiscal uncertainty muddies the outlook, and commodity prices down, Canada's current account gap is expected to remain sizeable through 2013," said Benjamin Reitzes, senior economist at BMO Capital Markets.

Statscan said a 1.5 percent rise in the export of goods, led by stronger energy and food shipments, was largely behind the smaller deficit. The country's surplus on trade in goods with the United States grew by C$2 billion in the quarter, even though it shrank in the year as a whole.

PRODUCER PRICES UNCHANGED

The deficit on trade in services narrowed to C$6.1 billion from a high of C$6.2 billion previously, helped by greater spending by overseas travelers coming to Canada.

However, the investment income deficit swelled to C$6.9 billion in the fourth quarter from C$5.1 billion in the third on increased earnings by foreigners on their direct investment in Canada.

In an indication that inflation is likely to remain tame, Statscan reported separately that industrial product prices were unchanged for the second straight month in January.

Raw materials prices jumped 3.8 percent in the month, the largest gain since November 2011, making up for a 2 percent drop in December.

Compared with a year earlier, producer prices were down 0.2 percent, while raw materials were down 4.7 percent.

In an upbeat contrast to the otherwise mediocre data on the fourth quarter, commercial borrowing by small and medium-sized businesses in Canada hit its highest level since 2008 in the last three months of 2012, according to a PayNet survey released on Thursday.

PayNet, which tracks commercial financing for millions of North American small and medium-sized businesses, said its Canadian Business Lending Index was up 6 percent in the fourth quarter from the third quarter and up 23 percent year-over-year.

A much smaller percentage of the businesses were behind on their payments, it said.

China tensions with Japan sell fireworks?

Some manufacturers of New Year fireworks are profiting from strong anti-Japanese sentiment related to territorial disputes. Just check out the names of certain pyrotechnics for sale on Beijing streets.

By Peter Ford,?Staff Writer / February 6, 2013

A vendor walks out from a room where boxes of firecrackers with the words 'Tokyo Big Explosion' are stored in Beijing, Wednesday. The vendor said Chinese authorities have asked that the fireworks not be sold due to its name on the package. China and Japan are in a tense dispute over East China Sea islands that have inflamed anti-Japanese sentiment among Chinese.

This year?s celebration, though, will carry ugly undertones of real war in the midst of rising tensions with neighboring Japan. On sale on the city?s streets in advance of Saturday night?s festivities is a box of pyrotechnics called ?Tokyo Explosion.??

Most fireworks here bear more benign names. ?Golden Snakes Dancing Crazily? is expected to be popular, as Chinese welcome in the Year of the Snake. ?Wish You Get Rich? and ?Billionaire? play to traditional desires.

But some manufacturers are seeking to profit from a seething undercurrent of anti-Japanese sentiment that has bubbled to the surface as a dispute with Japan over ownership of a group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea grows increasingly bitter.

?I Love the Diaoyu Islands? is one such product, referring to the Chinese name for the islands. In Japan they are known as the Senkakus.

?Aircraft Carrier Shows China?s Might? is another, celebrating the October 2012 launch of the Liaoning, China?s first carrier, which has become a symbol of Beijing?s growing military strength.

Tensions around the islands edged up another notch this week, when the Japanese government revealed that a Chinese naval frigate had ?locked on? to a Japanese vessel with its missile-guidance radar system.

On Wednesday, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe called the incident a ?dangerous? and ?provocative? act ?that could have led to an unpredictable situation.?

On the Chinese Internet, however, angry micro-bloggers hailed the Chinese action.

?We should shoot at Japanese vessels before we warn them,? advocated Li Xu on Sina.com?s popular Twitter-like Weibo platform. ?The only way to punish Japan is to annihilate all Japanese,? added another commentator calling himself Truelove Leo.

The aggressively named fireworks reflect an anti-Japanese mood that the Chinese authorities sometimes seem eager to feed. Government and ruling Communist Party officials orchestrated anti-Japanese demonstrations last year when the island dispute broke out, and Chinese TV is flooded with drama series ? one much like another ? set during the Sino-Japanese war (1937-1945), featuring inhuman ?Japanese devils? as the popular Chinese phrase has it.

There is even a theme park in Shanxi Province where tourists can dress up as soldiers in the Eighth Route Army, the Communist Party?s main military force during the war, sing anti-Japanese war songs, and join in mock guerrilla battles against the Japanese invaders.

A public opinion poll released at the end of last year found that 87 percent of Chinese had a negative opinion of Japan, up from 66 percent a year earlier. And the feeling is mutual. A Japanese government survey in December found sympathy for China at a record low, with less than 20 percent of respondents reporting an affinity for their giant neighbor.

Not everybody buys into the prevailing atmosphere, however. When one Chinese blogger posted a screenshot from a recent TV drama capturing a particularly gory and ludicrous scene of a Chinese man tearing a ?Japanese devil? in half with his bare hands, most of the comments were scathing.

?Another brainwashing drama,? scoffed one. ?The Communist Party is unparalleled in this field.?
